Larry E. Harting, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Larry was born February 11, 1940 in Princeton, Indiana to parents Norman Henry and Ival Irene Harting.
Larry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963. After returning home, he married Judith Lavely on May 25, 1963.
He began his career working in the Indiana State Auditor’s office until 1978 when he became the Executive Vice President of Indiana County Data Services. In 1983, he went to work for the Indiana Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2005.
Apart from his career, Larry was a long time member of the American Legion Post 229 in Hope, Indiana and in 1995, he began his own business, Larry’s Crafts.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith Harting; two sons, Brian Dale (Jill) and Paul Eugene Harting; three grandchildren, Anna Lynn Modlin, Brian Dale Harting Jr., and Kendall Emma Harting; 1 great-grandchild, Mila Leanea Nye; his brother, Donald Ray (Jayne) Harting; sister, Norma Jean (Bill) Slater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Dorothy Fay Stroud.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes, there will be no public services. There will be a private inurnment at Lincoln Memory Garden Mausoleum in Whitestown, Indiana.
