

Lois E. Prewitt, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Friday, October 10, 2014, at Our Hospice. Lois was born November 7, 1922, in Fort Wayne, the only child of Forrest F. Jarvis and Nellie L. Fouch. Lois graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne in 1940 and received her secretarial certificate in 1941.
Lois married the late Frederick “Bud” Prewitt February 22, 1947, joined Taylor Brothers Construction Company and stayed with this valued employer until she was blessed with her first of two children after patiently waiting for twelve years.
She was a shining example of a servant’s heart. As a founding member of North Christian Church, she served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and long-time youth group leader. Lois was passionate about giving back and volunteered with Head Start, all her children’s schools and served as a Cub Scout and Brownie troop leader. Lois also passed her love of tennis on to her children and played her last doubles match at 74.
At her core, Lois was devoted to those she loved most. She joins our Heavenly Father, her husband Frederick “Bud” Prewitt and her son James R. Prewitt. Surviving Lois is her daughter, Lori A. MacNeill; her husband, Guy D. MacNeill; and her beloved grandsons, Andrew J. MacNeill and William R. MacNeill, all of Austin TX. Gene Settle, her “special” friend of 14 years also survives. Special thanks go to Gene, his family and Janie Gordon, mom’s local caregiver, for their loving care and support.
A memorial service celebrating Lois’ life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 in the chapel at First Christian Church with the Rev. David Burnett officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Private burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Arrangements for the celebration service are under the care and guidance of Hathaway-Myers.
