

Mr. Prather was born in Columbus, IN. on October 09, 1922, the son of the late Marion L. and Dorothy E. Vest Prather.
He married Wilma A. Lee in Columbus, IN. on August 01, 1964 and she preceded him in death on November 25, 1995.
Mr. Prather was a United States WWII Army Air Corp. Veteran.
He owned Shorty’s Restaurant in Columbus, IN. for 65 years.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Church in Edinburgh, IN. He was a member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #20 F.&A.M. in Columbus, IN., the York Rite Bodies and the Indianapolis Murat Shrine.
Shorty enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles.
The funeral service celebrating the life of Shorty will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 09, 2010 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St. with the Rev. Bill M. Weaver officiating.
A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home by members of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. on Monday, November 08, 2010 and from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by the Indiana Army National Guard Honor Guard in conjunction with the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the General Scholarship Fund at Columbus North or Columbus East High School.

Mr. Prather is survived by a daughter, Pam Prather of Columbus, IN.; a family friend, Ruby Eagleton of Columbus, IN.; a niece, Barbara (Marvin) Dean of Columbus, IN.; a nephew, Marion F. “Sonny” (Patty) Gillaspy of Florida; two great nephews, Phil (Mary) Miles and Doug Miles both of Columbus, IN. and two great nieces, Nicole (Brian) Sturgill of Reddington, IN. and Gisele (Troy) Coffman of Columbus, IN.
Along with his parents and wife of 31 years, Mr. Prather was also preceded in death by his sister, Florence Gillaspy.
