

Mary Josephine (Bedel) Coffin Eddy, 75, of Flintwood Drive, Columbus died February 11, 2015 in her home after a brief illness. Mary Jo was born January 23, 1940 in Hamburg, IN, to Andrew and Helen (Schwering) Bedel. She married Ronald Coffin on May 30, 1959, and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1983. On November 25, 2006, Mary Jo married Carl Eddy, and he survives.
Early in her life, Mary Jo attended the Indiana Business College and worked at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mary Jo was active in the parishes of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville and St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Columbus. Among her volunteering for the parishes, she had served as the Religious Coordinator at St. Mary’s.
Surviving her husband Carl of Columbus, her sons Greg (Annette) Coffin and Charlie Coffin, Rushville, IN, Chris Coffin, Fishers, IN, and Pat (Shelia) Coffin, Fairland, IN; step-children Michael (Kathy) Eddy, Bethel, CT, Kevin (Sonya) Eddy, San Antonio, TX, Kathy Eddy, Wake Forest, NC, and Tim (Jenny) Eddy, Oshkosh, WI, 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Mary Jo is also survived by her siblings Carolyn (Wes) Shupert, New Castle, IN, Margaret (John) Kussmaul, Valparaiso, IN, Mary Ann Pfleging, West Terre Haute, IN, Alvin Bedel, Auburn, KY, Jerry Bedel, Marana, AZ, Tom (Diana) Bedel, Rushville, IN and Jim (Lillian) Bedel, Milroy, IN, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a. m. Tuesday 2-17-15 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus by Father Clem Davis. Calling will be Monday from 4:00 p. m. until 7:30 p. m. at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus. A Rosary of Intentions will be recited at 7:30 p. m. by Frank Hager. In keeping with Mary Jo’s wishes, cremation is planned with private inurnment in Calvary Cemetery in Rushville at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society through either St. Bartholomew or St. Mary (Rushville) Catholic Church, or to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
