Otho Warren Holland

Otho Warren Holland, 89, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on January 15, 2014. He was born in Lapaz, Indiana, August 30, 1924 to Clyde and Hazel Clark Holland. He was a 1942 graduate of Lapaz High School and a 1950 graduate of Manchester College. He was married to Ruth Esther Mangun in 1942 at Plymouth, Indiana.

Otho retired from Arvin Industries in 1989 after 38 years of service. He was instrumental in installing the first mainframe computer system. He was also active in the community serving as a former president of the Noon Optimist Club and a member of the Columbus Utility Board. Otho served his country in World War II as a member of the 66th Army Infantry Division spending three years in the European theater. He enjoyed getting together with members of the 66th division and swapping stories at their bi-yearly reunion. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching sporting events, especially I.U. basketball, Cubs baseball and any sporting event in which his son or grandchildren were involved.

Otho was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eldon, a sister Doris Stevenson and a half-brother, Neal Holland.

Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Dr. Ruth Holland, a son James (Bobbi) Holland, a granddaughter Susan (David) Krider, a grandson, Clark (Robin) Holland and ten great grandchildren, all of Columbus. Private funeral services and entombment will be held at the mausoleum at Garland Brook cemetery. Calling will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on January 20th at the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
