She was born in Louisville, Kentucky April 15, 1930, the daughter of Theron L. and Gypsie Tolbert Bell. She married Rev. Donald C. Humphrey in LaGrange, Kentucky August 5, 1955; he survives.
She was a graduate of Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY in 1952 with a B.A. degree in music. She was a substitute teacher in Bunker Hill, Indiana, but mainly she was a devoted Pastor’s wife for eighteen different churches, she was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus. She was a member of American Baptist Women; she had been a choir director and was a member of the board of Edna Martin Christian Center. She loved to read, travel, sew, bake and listen to music.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Donald C. Humphrey of Columbus; daughter, Connie J. Humphrey of McAllen, TX; son, Donald R. Humphrey of Indianapolis; brothers, Paul Ray (Bonnie) Bell of Louisville, KY and Roy A. (Marylou) Bell of LaGrange, KY; sister, Jean (Dorsa) Shockey of La Grange, KY; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor David Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. Saturday to service time at the church. Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
