Sue was born in Canton, Ohio, on December 29, 1948. She was a proud graduate of Edinburgh High School, class of 1966, and Purdue University, class of 1970.
Sue had a lively, independent, fun-loving spirit, was always game for anything and never shied away from adventure. She was cherished by her family and myriad friends she made throughout her life.
Sue spent her early career in social services working at the Bartholomew County Division of Family Resources and Columbus Regional Health. In 1987 she relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where she lived for 22 years, working at the University of California at Berkeley. She returned to Columbus in 2009, and worked at IUPUC until retiring.
Sue loved country music, going to concerts, and playing any kind of card or board game. She was a longtime member of the Common Ground Garden Club, the Evening Star Quilters and the Bartholomew County Democratic Women.
In addition to her sisters, Sharon Krieg and Sheila Gerber, Sue is survived by brothers-in-law, Bill Krieg, Bill Austin and Rogelio (Boyet) Panique; nephews, Roy Caligan, Loren, Tim and Paul Krieg, and Ivo Austin; and nieces, Kevlynn Caligan and Hollis Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivo and Helen Gerber; her brother, Ramon Gerber; her sister, Sally Caligan; and brother-in-law, Roy Caligan, Sr.
Sue was a loving, caring sister and friend who embraced life fully and will be missed by all who knew her.
Memorial donations in honor of Sue can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Mill Race Center. A memorial service for Sue will be announced at a later date.
