Thomas Ray Lynn

Thomas R. Lynn, 72, of Columbus passed from this life on December 25, 2019. Mr. Lynn was born June 4, 1947 in Columbus, to Ralph A. Lynn, Jr. and Mary Margaret (Ketchum) Lynn. On January 7, 1967, he married Nancy J. (McKale) Lynn and she survives. Mr. Lynn graduated from Columbus High School in 1965. He began his employment at Reeves Pulley and soon after went to work at Cummins. While at Cummins, he served in the Air force Reserves for six years. He also worked at Arnett Insurance and retired from Columbus East High School. Mr. Lynn was very involved in his community, having coached Little League baseball and girl’s basketball. He was a member of the Columbus Jaycees for 15 years, during which he was involved in philanthropic causes and projects. He served as president of the Columbus chapter and also as Regional Director. He was named a member of the Indiana Jaycee Senate and recognized as a Kentucky Colonel. For over 30 years, Mr. Lynn was a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #521 having served as Exulted Ruler and on many committees. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered as a “Blacksmith” with the Columbus East Football Team. As a blacksmith, he assisted with weight training and videography for eight years. Mr. Lynn was a member of St. Bartholomew Church. There he participated in several ministries including RCIA food and hospitality, light luncheon, Confirmation formation, funeral ministry, and the Sun Run. Mr. Lynn was a man of hospitality, frequently opening his home to family and friends. While sharing meals with those he loved, he enjoyed telling a good story and listening to others’ stories. He had a big heart. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Adam Lynn and wife Tara of Leesville, LA, daughter Megan Dettle and husband Chris of Cape Carteret, NC, grandchildren Zachary Bruckbauer, Marcus Lynn, Kyle Lynn, Eliana Dettle, Loryn Bailey, Lily Dettle, Violet Dettle; sister-in-law Ruth Lynn, sister Linda Moore, brother Ron Lynn and wife Nikki; sister-in-law Mary King and companion Hugh Allen, Pat Walker and husband Mike, sister-in-law Barbara Mangan and husband Larry, Katie Bush and husband Scott, and brother-in-law Bill McKale and wife Pat. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ken and Mary McKale, brothers Rodger and Doug Lynn, brothers-in-law Doug Moore and Frank King. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th Street, Columbus, IN. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th Street, Columbus, IN with visitation one hour prior to mass. Interment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery following mass. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bartholomew Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
