Verna L. West, 102, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation. She was born October 29, 1922, in Jennings County, to Neiland R. and Emma (Richey) Tatem. They preceded her in death.
Verna was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Joyce Sutton of Columbus; grandchildren, Bryan Fonner of Columbus, Holly Tourville of Warren, MI, Cinnamon Lewis of Georgia, Michael West of Georgia, and Amanda West of Kansas. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris A. West; son Thomas West; granddaughter, Ginger Gist; and sisters, Patricia Dickson, Ruth Young, Mary Hoyt, Frances Howard Lehman, and Evelyn Lange.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Monday, February 24, 2025, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Evan Guse officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12 noon, the hour of service, also on Monday at the church.
