

Melvin Abraham Mounts (Abe) died November 4, 2011. He was born August 17, 1922 in Washington, PA to Elmer Nicholas and Della May (Doman) Mounts. He is predeceased by sisters, Minnie, Irene, Ida, Lucille and brother, Leo. Surviving are sisters Betty Powell, Claysville, PA; Hazel (Bob) Yaro, Defiance, OH; and brother Harry (Marion) Mounts, Washington, PA; daughters Karen (Paul) Smith, Williamsburg, VA; Christy Mumper, Chesapeake, VA and their mother Velma Mounts, Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren Jennifer Smith (Patrick) McCaffrey, Cordova, TN; Christopher Smith, Richmond, VA; great grandchildren Haley and Connor McCaffrey; many nieces and nephews. Also survived by wife Marcene, married March 1990, and her children Mitchell (Charisse) Phillips, Greenwood, IN; Lisa (Mark) Price, Lodi, CA; Brad (Misato In) Phillips, Columbus, OH and grandchildren Hayley Phillips; Luke, Katherine, Andrew, and Nicholas Price; Sachio and Hitoshi Phillips. Abe served in Europe with the 644th Army Tank Destroyer Battalion receiving the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster. After WWII he was a home builder in Washington, PA dba M. Abe Mounts Construction, then managing partner of Fireproof Block Company, Columbus, OH starting in 1970 and retiring in 1987. As a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Abe served on the Property Committee, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and mentored a youth group mission trip. Other memberships include Claysville Masonic Lodge 0447 (50 years); Washington Royal Arch Chapter No. 150; Jacques DeMolay Commandery No. 3, Washington, PA; Aladdin Temple, Columbus, OH; and American Legion, Claysville, PA. Funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 730 Collingwood Avenue, Whitehall, OH 43213 on Sunday, November 6th at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Moehring and the Rev. Mitchell Phillips co-officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Claysville, PA.
