Albert “Jerry” Franklin Cameron III passed on May 3, 2011 at Kobacker House after a long, determined, and valiant battle with cancer. He was born on May 19, 1949 to Al and Edna (Raether) Cameron in Columbus, Ohio. A lifelong “Golden Bear,” he graduated from UAHS in 1967. He earned a BS in Education from OSU in 1971, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He ran track and played football for the Buckeyes. Throughout high school and college, he played guitar and sang with the New Folk Singers with four talented friends. After graduating from OSU, he worked as a teacher and coach of football and wrestling at Hastings Middle School in UA, where he shaped the lives of many students. He continued his passion for coaching with his children’s various teams. His enthusiasm and gift for making others feel special contributed to his success in business. He was an avid golfer, sports aficionado, and loved listening to Geoff’s jazz group, Luxury-Brown. Jerry served on the Delta Tau Delta House Corporation, was past president of the UA Civic Association, and worked on the ASID women’s shelter projects, lending his talents with a saw and hammer. His voice was known throughout the community, as he volunteered as an auctioneer and emcee for many charities over the years. Many referred to him as “Mr. Microphone”. His favorite gig was the “star attraction” at the annual UACA Christmas Village. He will be remembered for his joy for life, exuberance, and never-ending positivity and optimism.
