Alexander William Bates, 29, of Columbus, died unexpectedly at home Friday, August 12, 2016. He was born January 4, 1987 in Columbus to Randy Bates and Anna (Rodriguez) Bates. Alex attended Westerville North High School and Columbus State University. He was employed with About Time Software. He was a Life Scout with Troop #560. He was an avid Stars Wars fan and video game player, being the Legend of R.O.E. and he enjoyed playing pool. Alex is survived by his father Randy (Joyce) Bates, mother Anna (David) Hasselback, wife Shannon (Hutchason) Bates, children Michael, Matthew and Mason and, brothers Adam and Anthony (Annie Ngim), grandparents Tony and Marlene Rodriguez, nieces and extended family and friends. Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 5-7 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Troop #560 c/o Church of the Messiah, 51 N. State St., Westerville, OH 43081.
