Alfred T. Gingras, 90, of Mount Vernon, passed away on June 29, 2019. He was born February 25, 1929 in Danielson, Connecticut, to Alpherie and Angelina (Moulin) Gingras. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eileen, daughter Julie, brothers Theodore, Lucky and Donald and sister Bernice.
Alfred shared 62 wonderful years with the love of his life, Eileen (Conway) Gingras, raised five children, and was blessed with eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, was an aeronautical engineer at North American Aviation/Rockwell and an MG restorer. He obtained his glider and power pilot licenses, and fixed practically everything. With the help of family and the Amish community he built their dream home and private airstrip. He passed along a love of flying to his sons and a passion for cars to his daughters. A hot cup of coffee from his favorite waitresses at the Southside Diner, his cat Ginger and his family near and far brought him much joy.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters Theresa, Irene, Rose, Adeline, Annette, Martha, Agnes and the extended Gingras/Moulin family. His children John (Tess), Michael (Tammy), Michelle and Nicole bid him bon voyage on his final flight into the wild blue yonder.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm on Wednesday, July 3 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street. The funeral service will be at 10am on Thursday, July 4 at St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church at 5858 Cleveland Avenue. Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, July 5 at Moundview Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
In lieu of flowers he would be honored if you tip your waitress a little more, support a veterans organization or simply enjoy the peace that nature brings us.
