

Allan “Al” Berger, 78, of Circleville, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Carriage Court in Lancaster. He was born March 13, 1932 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of the late Manni and Jenny Berger. Al was an Army veteran of the Korean War and played minor league baseball for the Philadelphia farm system. He worked on the B&O Railroad to earn money for college and graduated from Ohio University with a master’s degree in political science. He obtained his Doctorate of Jurisprudence through the Ohio State University College of Law. He practiced law in the Circleville community for over 48 years. Al was a football and basketball official for Division III colleges and in 1992 was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Official’s Hall of Fame. He was a member of Circleville Noon Rotary for many years. Al was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Barbara Stahl. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Holliger) Berger, whom he married on August 29, 1959; his son, Eric Matthew (Lori) Berger of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Jennifer Lyn (Shaun) Brown; grandchildren, William Allan Brown, Ian Samuel and Allyson Faith Berger; and his faithful one-eyed cat, Jack. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 134 E. Mound St, Circleville with Rev. Troy Braswell officiating.
