Amanda Susan Ralph

Amanda Susan Ralph, 71, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2022. She lived a full life, involving several careers and many accomplishments. After growing up in Uniontown, PA, and moving to Pinckney, MI, for her high school years, Amanda graduated from the University of Maryland with a microbiology degree. She worked at microbiology labs for nine years and then studied law at George Washington University. She moved to Columbus, Ohio, passed the bar, and worked as a general counsel at the Ohio EPA and at SAIC. During that time she married Daniel Shapiro and had two children, Becky and Jacob. In her mid-fifties, Amanda decided to move on from her law career. She earned an MSW at Ohio State to become a social worker, then worked for several years as a mediator with the Franklin County courts. Soon after her cancer diagnosis in 2009, she became involved with the Zhineng Qigong group in Columbus, attended spiritualist churches, sang with the James Hospital’s Victory Choir, and was active in the multiple myeloma group at the Cancer Support Community. She devoted her major efforts later in life toward learning about spiritual energy: she was deeply involved with Qigong, became certified to practice Eden Energy Medicine, and more recently studied Sue Morter’s Energy Codes.

She loved singing, cooking, traveling around the country and the world, and spending time with family. In recent years, she was absolutely delighted to be a grandmother. Throughout her life, Amanda never stopped learning. She actively sought answers to large life questions and worked to help others with their similar searches.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Shapiro; children, Becky (Brian) Herrick and Jacob Shapiro; grandchildren, Beatrice and Louisa Herrick; siblings, Sam Ralph, Richard Ralph, and Ann Dettling Vallozzi; and other extended family members and friends.

Family will receive friends at a reception on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 4-6 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd. A memorial service celebrating Amanda will follow at 6 PM.
