She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dr. Edward W. Jew, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and several nieces and nephews. Angela is predeceased by her husband Daniel J. Scurci, her fraternal twin sister Anita Conte Eble’, her sister, Rosemarie C. Jew, and her beloved daughter, Anita Caruso (Jay).
Angela attended school in Pittsburgh where she graduated from the Divine Providence Academy, and then Duquesne University – majoring in business education. She met her husband, Daniel J. Scurci at Duquesne, and they married and lived in Pittsburgh until moving to Mansfield, Ohio in 1969.
Angela’s greatest passions from a very young age were singing and acting. She loved singing to the Metropolitan Opera radio show on Saturday afternoons. Italian operas were her favorite. Angela also loved popular music/musicals, and even sang on KDKA radio Pittsburgh, in 1948. Angela shared this love of music with her husband and children. She encouraged her children to play instruments, put on neighborhood shows, sing in choirs/bands, and dance in recitals. Dan and Angela enjoyed ballroom dancing, singing in the Mansfield Chorus, and performing in the Mansfield Town Roast. Angela was also a member of Spoken Images, a Mansfield spoken word performance group, and starred as Madam Zodiac, astrologist and murderer, in the Mansfield Playhouse mystery dinner theatre series. In her later years, Angela kept her musical rhythm by playing in the Westminster-Thurber (Ohio Living) drumming circle and performing at Columbus’s “Comfest.”
Angela was a caring, open, supportive and compassionate soul who loved to help people through her work, philanthropy, and faith. She was a typing teacher and an instructor for unwed mothers in the 1970’s. She was a member of The Mansfield League of Women Voters and a volunteer at Saint Peter’s Parish for some catechism events. And she became a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Francis Parish when she moved to Columbus in December, 2010.
Angela was also smart, creative, resourceful, resilient, and feisty. She was hard-working and always encouraged herself and others to give their best. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed channeling her love into delicious family meals. A self-taught cook with an international palate, she passed down to her family volumes of recipes, including those of her mother.
Angela was a fun-loving and bright spirit who would daily break out in song. For Angela, life was a musical, and she was singing in tune days before she died despite her illness. Her love, song, and strength will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends for many years to come.
