

Anne Jackson Barry, born August 28, 1928, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 . She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Barry; and her brother, Sherman B. Jackson. She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Hur; nephew: Ben (Delia) Hur III; a grand niece, Erica Jane Hur and grand nephew, Ben Hur IV all from The Woodlands, TX; and sister-in-law, Jessie Kay Jackson of Salisbury, NC. A special thank you to all the Home Instead care givers who gave her their best care and love. Anne graduated from North High School in 1946. She is a third generation Columbusite and Clintonville product. She went to Ohio State where she was a member of Delta Gamma. Anne won The Mademoiselle magazine contest to find college co-eds for their college board. Her major was in Education. After graduating from Ohio State in 1950, Anne headed for New York City. She became the librarian for The Brooklyn Children Museum. In 1955 she decided to get her master degree in Library Science at U.S.C. After graduating Anne was off to Germany to be a librarian on an army post in Frankfurt. At vacation time she would travel all over Europe, Russia, and the British Isles. After two years, Anne came back to Columbus for a visit, then off to Japan to be the librarian on the army base there. As in Germany, she traveled on her vacations, this time to Korea, Hong Kong Thailand, and all over Japan. She returned back to Columbus to be the librarian at Eastmoor High School. When Whetstone High School opened, Anne was the first librarian to set up the Whetstone library. With all of her travels she came back to Columbus and met James P. Barry. They were married 45 years. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 10am at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Green Lawn Ave., Columbus, OH 43223.
