

Barbara Ann Carfrey, age 95, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Village in Dayton, Ohio. She was born December 30, 1919 to Milton O. and Freda (Wagenheim) Drumm in Newark, Ohio. Barbara was a graduate of North High School For many years, she wrote a column for the Westside Messenger entitled "Hilltop Views" referring to herself as Ms. Babs. Barbara was the Chair of the Greater Hilltop Area Commission, Chair of the Greater Hilltop Community Development Corporation Board of Trustees, Trustee of the Hilltop Historical Society, a member of the Hilltop Business Association and a member of the Greater Hilltop Area League for the Arts. She enjoyed being the Emcee of the annual "Women of Character" awards where she received an honorary award as a "Woman of Character". Barbara was heavily devoted in implementing the NCR (Neighborhood Commercial Revitalization) on West Broad Street. She was proudly named Grand Marshal of the Hilltop Business Association's 1995 "Uptown on the Hilltop" Parade. Barbara cared deeply for music, teaching piano to young children, singing in church choirs and at weddings. Preceded in death by her husband Everett; son, William and sister, Susan Grant. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Christina (Gary) Alwood of Westlake Village, CA; son Pete Carfrey of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Ellyn Carfrey of Dayton; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10-12 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, where a funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. Interment to follow at Beckett Cemetery in Commercial Point, Ohio.
