Betty J. Atkinson

Betty Jane Whitford Atkinson, age 95, Upper Arlington, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. She was born February 7, 1926, in Muskegon, MI to Edna and Ralph Whitford and grew up in Rochester NY. Betty was married 53 years to her loving husband, Herschel C. Atkinson Jr. who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Whitford Benner and brother, Robert Whitford. Betty is survived by 4 children, Lynn Atkinson, Betsy (Michael) Miely, Karen (Richard) Argo and Herschel C. (Elizabeth) Atkinson III; 4 grandchildren, Kelly Miely (John Stone), Andrew Argo (fiancée Lisa Waugh), Megan (Douglas) Daughters and Ty (Michelle) Argo; 5 great grandchildren, Tommy, Abby and Charlie Daughters, Julian Argo and George Owen Stone and many loving nieces and nephews. Betty graduated from The Ohio State University, was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and was the May Queen in 1944. Betty was associated with Argo & Lehne Jewelers for 35 years. She was a faithful and avid Buckeye fan, OSU alumni life member, member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Twig#44 of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and a lifetime member of Upper Arlington Civic Association. A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST.
