We know that there are painful twangs on your heart strings and that this chapter in your life brings much pathos and emotional strain to you. Carl & Louise were our neighbors for 13 years at the corner of Yates and Simmons in Grove City.  What GREAT people!.  Loved to walk over and talk WWII airplanes or fishing stories with Carl.  Sometimes his grandson Craig would play at our house with our son David during visits.  Can still see him loading up his boat on top of his truck for some fishing.  Praying for God's  Blessings  for  his family, they have lost a great guy.  Gary, Cindy, David and Jennifer Gibson

Carl said the 376th reunion in Savannah gave him something to shoot for and I was hoping he would make it and looking forward to being with him at the 8th air force museum.  They have a bronze bust of Jimmy Stewart there.  Was thinking about that and remembered the last movie that Stewart made before he went in the the service was THE MORTAL STORM.  Not one of his most famous movies but one I have seen and never forgotten.  The closing moments of the movie include the poem "THE GATE OF THE YEAR".  It reads:

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: "Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown."
And he replied:
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.  That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way."
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night.  And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.

     I would have liked to have read that poem to Carl before he left, but now I am certain that he already knows it.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers, as well as your memories give you comfort to help you endure the days ahead. A true and dedicated Air Force leader. I had the privilege to serve with Carl in the late 60's. He was the best of the best as a Commander. Those of us from the 302nd TAW, the "Buckeye Wing", continued to enjoy the band of brothers semi annual gatherings  with Carl since those Clinton County AFB years. To his family, thanks for sharing him with us and may God Bless and comfort.     Ralph Carlson, Col, USAF, Ret.

To the family of Carl:  I worked at Clinton County Air Force Base and Carl was always such a great guy.   He would help anyone who needed anything.   When I attended the Clinton County AFB Reunions, I would always enjoy talking with Carl.   He will be greatly missed.   I have you all in my thoughts and prayers.   I am sure he passed on many of his wonderful traits.    GG Walker
