Col. Carl B. Yerian left this earth to join his maker on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Born in Washington Court House, Ohio on Feb. 25, 1922 to Cecil and Leota Yerian, Carl had a full life and accomplished much. He served his country in WW II as a pilot of a B-24 bomber, flying 51 combat missions with the 376th Heavy Bomber Group also known as "The Liberandos". He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross among other citations. He also served in the Korean War, VietNam War, and as a commander of the 906th S.O.G. with the Air Force Reserves, for a total service to his country of 32 years. As a civilian he began a career with Ohio Bell as a wire-splicer and pole climber. His sharp mind and "can do" attitude ultimately led to his retirement after 40 years from ATandT as Chief Engineer for the state of Ohio. Despite his accomplishments and the demands of his military and civilian careers, Carl remained a humble, kind, and giving man. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by many. The memory of Carl will be cherished by his wife Mary Alice, sons Edward (Patricia) and Dale (Sharlie), grandchildren; Brent, Nicole (Mike), Damon (Alex), Craig, Alicia, Tiffany, Russell, and 2 great grandchildren. Also missed by step-children Steve (Suzanne), Scott (Michele), Susan (Doug), grandchildren Hannah (Joshua), Zach, Ali, and Wes, sister Beverly, nephew Kevin (Sue), niece Betsy, and sister-in-law Elenor Lawhorn. Preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Leota, wife Louise, son Wayne, sister Jean and brother Howard. Family will receive friends Friday, July 12, 2013, 6-8pm at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH, 43204. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, at 10am at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Drive, Columbus 43204. Interment to follow at the Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, OH.
