In loving memory of Carol Moorehead
Carol was born on June 4, 1926 in Washington CH, Ohio to Joseph Arthur and Mabel Allen McCoy. Her sense of adventure and entrepreneurial spirit took her far from this small farm community to embark on a wide range of ventures and accomplishments. She was an inspiration to all who knew her!
Carol graduated with a bachelors degree from The Ohio State University and earned a Masters Degree in textile technology from the University of Pittsburgh. As part of her degree program at PITT, she traveled to Cleveland to regularly appear on an ABC TV program focused on the testing of textiles. It is during this time that she married her hometown sweetheart, Dave Ellies. After graduation they moved to New York City to start their adventure together.
The couple moved to Columbus Ohio in 1954 where they co-founded Dave Ellies Industrial Design Inc. Carol served as Executive VP for the company. Carol loved the arts and gave countless hours of creativity and honed organizational skills to support many worthwhile causes and community organizations such as Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus Museum of Art, CSO, CAPA and PEO. Of notable accomplishments, she chaired the first Decorator Show House to benefit the Columbus Museum of Art and in 1978 was named Northwest Columbus Rotary woman of the year. When Dave died unexpectedly in 1990, Carol lost her beloved husband and partner. A few years later she was fortunate to find love again and married Marv Moorehead, legendary former football coach of Upper Arlington High School. Whether she was planning an event, heading a fundraiser or traveling abroad, she never neglected her role as a wife, mother, grandmother or great grandmother, and was intentional to provide opportunities for loving relationships to develop within the family. In her later years, she became more and more focused on growing in her relationship with God and her personal faith journey.
She is survived by four children: Dianne Bennett (Richard), Lisa Ehrman (Joe), Kristin Chace (John), Ernie Ellies (Sherry). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Rachel (Cliff), Gabriel, Elijah (Michi), Arielle (Andrew), Jared, Jenna (Josh), Peter (Sarah), Alicia (Chris), Stephanie, Davis, and step-grandson Sam, along with 19 great grandchildren: Will, Conor, Deacon, Cynan, Estelle, Myles, Grace, Wesley, Rowan, Noah, Liam, Elijah, Evangeline, Olivia, Chace, Lily, Alexandra, Nolan, and Avery.
Carol leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family and faith, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
“If you would drink deeply of Life’s Best,
Find someone who needs you,
To whom you can give incentive in love
And you will taste Life’s Zest.” By Mabel Ellies
