Carol was born on June 4, 1943 in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Lincoln High School and continued her education while raising her two daughters. She worked for the University of Washington for over 14 years starting in the Payroll Department, then moving to title of Budget Coordinator for the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington Medical Center. Her career was cut short after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis while still in her 30's. She remained active for several years primarily doing volunteer work for underprivileged, high-risk youth and adults.
Carol was a life-long learner, always expanding her knowledge and taking classes. Her hobbies included art, travel, books, classical music, dancing, and swimming - she even performed water ballet at the Greenlake Aqua Theater in her youth. She adored her furry friends and probably cared for just about every breed of dog over the years!
Carol was blessed with extraordinary artistic abilities that she often used to bless others. Her gifts and talents included drawing, painting, sculpting, decorating, or even making elaborate food displays for parties. Carol was also very adventurous and brave. Some of her adventures included sky diving, camping trips, and cross-country car trips. She once drove her two teenage daughters to Disneyland along the Pacific Coast Highway from Seattle all the way into Mexico and back!
As a single parent, she sacrificed much to do the best she could to take care of her daughters, even working multiple jobs at times. Those who knew Carol were also aware of her playful and mischievous side. She was full of laughter and giggles that brought joy to everyone around her. Carol loved church, taught Sunday School in her younger years, and often attended Bible Studies. Because of her faith, and great love of music, she knew the words to practically every hymn and joyfully sang them often.
The most important gift she gave her daughters, and all who knew her, was her faith and love for Jesus. For that, we are eternally grateful! She will forever be our hero and we will always remember her generous heart and love for Jesus, family, and life itself. Even in the midst of many hard and challenging struggles, she taught us the meaning of perseverance and to never give up hope and faith. Carol passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 22, 2020 with her family nearby.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Grace Hillard of Seattle, WA, and son-in-law, Russell Klein of Columbus, OH. She is survived by her daughters Brenda (Klein) Bixler (son-in-law, Kevin Bixler) of Columbus, OH and Stacy Wolter (son-in-law Thomas Wolter) of Bellevue WA, Seven grandchildren, her sister, Joan Waters (brother-in-law Jim Waters) of Bellevue, WA, brother, Donald Hillard (sister-in-law Lynn Hillard) of Kirkland, WA, and Six nieces and nephews.
