

She was the devoted wife of over 55 years of Dr. Lawrence Kent Waters. She and her twin sister, Gloria Mae, were born on Aug. 27, 1931 in Lebanon, Tennessee. Her parents were the late Dr. Robert James and Mrs. Carrie Mae (Blair) Wherry.
In 1937, her family moved to Chapel Hill, N.C. and, in 1948, to Upper Arlington, Ohio. Carrie graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1949 and received her B.A. from Ohio State University in 1953. She then took a job at the local TV station, WTVN, where she started a children's show called "Hi Jinx." She received her M.A. in psychology in 1956 and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1958. Carrie married Dr. Waters on Dec. 26, 1958 and they moved to Pensacola, Florida. They moved to Washington, D.C. in 1961, where she was employed by the U.S. Army Personnel Research Office. In 1964 she accepted a position at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in the Center for Psychological Services. Later she set up a private counseling business.
When she retired from practice, she opened a Christmas shop called Christmas at Carrie's. Carrie was an accomplished oil painter and bridge player. She and her husband enjoyed vacationing on the Outer Banks, NC. She will be remembered by all as being very kind and generous. She and her husband were members of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, Carrie is survived by her twin sister, Dr. Gloria Dougherty Kinnaird, her brothers, Dr. Robert J. Wherry, Jr. (Barbara), and John R. Wherry (Patricia), and many nieces and nephews: Douglas B. Dougherty (Mary) and Robert B. Dougherty (Toni); Robert J. Wherry III (Helene), Steven P. Wherry (Gina), Mary Beth Wherry Peddell (Michael), and Barbara L. Wherry-Skog (Mark); John R. Wherry Jr. (JoAnne), David Wherry (Jennifer), Donald Wherry (Karen), and Mark Wherry, cousins Matt Blair (Annie) , Charles Blair (Mary) and over 20 grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, September 19, 2014 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1735 Bethel Road, Columbus OH 43220, where calling hours will be from 10:30 - Noon. The family will receive guests at 1 PM at the church following the services. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Carrie Jean to Bethel Presbyterian Church.
