August 16th, 2011 – September 23rd, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Carter Michael Edell, who left us far too soon on September 23rd, 2025, at the age of 14.
Carter was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. Gifted with a sharp mind and a kind, compassionate heart, he had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved. Whether through a quiet act of kindness, a clever joke, or simply his willingness to stop and help anyone when asked, he touched people in meaningful ways every day.
Connecting with people of all ages was a gift Carter possessed. He was a positive, encouraging team member for the football and tennis teams at Hastings Middle School. He enjoyed many ski club adventure nights with friends. Managing the tech crew, soundboard, and microphones these last two years brought him immense joy.
He was always eager to learn more and challenge himself. He recently taught himself how to solve a Rubik's Cube and then began timing himself. He loved everything electronic, from new technology to RC cars. He had a passion for discovering every detail and a desire to become an expert in all things related.
Carter led an adventurous and exciting path for his younger cousins to follow, especially at Apple Valley Lake. Learning to fish off the dock, kayaking, pioneering the addition of jet ski riding, jumping in the lake from the dock roof, and waterskiing were just a few of the things that produced his infectious smile. He thoroughly enjoyed, with gratitude and respectful sharing, the full potential of family lake life.
His joy was contagious. His presence filled our home with silliness, laughter, warmth, and a sense of wonder. He dreamed big, loved deeply, and lived with purpose, even in his short time with us. Carter is survived by his loving parents, Steven and Melissa, his sister Mila, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Though his time with us here on earth was far too short, we take comfort that he is now at peace with the Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 (NLT) 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below--indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
A celebration of Carter’s life will be held Sunday, October 5th 2025 from 1:30PM – 3:00PM at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church: Mill Run Campus, 3500 Mill Run Drive in Hilliard, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00PM. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in remembering his incredible spirit.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carter’s memory to The Center for Suicide Prevention and Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital: http://give.nationwidechildrens.org/carterslegacy
