Charles Edward DeBoard, 80, was born on March 19, 1945, in Freeborn, Kentucky, to the late Cleo and Robert DeBoard. He grew up and attended school in Matewan, West Virginia, where he formed many lifelong memories. On Thursday, February 26, 2026 he gained his wings, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. Charles devoted over 50 years of service to Capital Manufacturing. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and pride in a job well done. His commitment to his work reflected the steady and dependable man his family and friends knew and loved. He was married to his beloved Mary DeBoard for 26 years, sharing a life built on companionship and family. He shared 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild with Mary and her children Elaine Shafley and Ralph Masten. He was previously married to Naomi DeBoard, whom he and Mary maintained a caring friendship. Charles was a proud father to his daughters, Sheila DeBoard, who survives him, and Shelly DeBoard, who preceded him in death. He was the grandfather of Harlie Gray and is also survived by two great-grandchildren. In addition to his daughter Shelly, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Cleo “Topsie” Sharp, Marie Norwood, Jack DeBoard, Margaret Ezell, Inis Wright, Lou Cisco, and Othella “Dottie” Gunning. He is survived by his brother, Robert “Butterball” DeBoard, as well as many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his humor and kindness. Charles enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved working on cars, gardening, tending to his yard, watching football, and playing cards. An avid Buckeye fan, he proudly cheered on his team whenever he could. He found peace riding his tractor and ATV around the farm, watching deer roam across his property, and relaxing on his porch swing. Known as a jokester, he had a special way of making others laugh. He also enjoyed his chewing tobacco — a familiar part of his daily routine that those who knew him well will always remember. He had a special place in his heart for his beloved baby cats — Smokey, Mia, Willow, and Snickers — who brought him comfort and companionship. Charles Edward DeBoard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will live on through the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave so freely.
