

Charles C. (“Fitz”) Fitzgerald, 86, of Columbus, OH passed away peacefully at his home on December 4, 2021. He was born on June 28, 1935 in Lansdowne, PA to the late Charles C. Fitzgerald, Sr. and Hazel (Bruce) Fitzgerald. Fitz is survived by his wife, Carol (Reese) Fitzgerald; daughters, Nancy Fitzgerald and Ceri Fitzgerald; and step-son, Theodor (Kathryn) Scheid. He was a joyful Pop Pop to his grandchildren, Reese Elizabeth and Eleanor Rose Scheid and always looked forward to spending time with them. Fitz will be remembered by his large, extended family and friends where he worked and lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Ohio. Fitz earned a B.S. in Education from West Chester State Teachers College and a M.S. in Secondary School Science from Villanova University. During his career as a teacher for more than 30 years, he taught students in junior high, senior high school, at the University of Delaware, and West Chester University. He completed pre-flight training at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1958. Fitz was passionate about baseball as he played, coached, and attended games throughout his life. He loved planning trips and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. He liked jazz, the blues, Irish music and practiced the tin whistle. Above all, he loved his family dearly and will be missed. Fitz's family is thankful for the caregivers, medical providers, therapists, and hospice staff who cared and matched wits with Fitz throughout the last two and a half years. Graveside services will be held on December 30, 2021 at 1pm at Pike Run Cemetery in Gomer, OH.
