
Charlotte I. Spohn, 88, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Forum at Knightsbridge, Columbus, Ohio. The daughter of M.W. and Adena J. Irgens, she was born in Brainerd, Minnesota May 31, 1922. She grew up in Lancaster, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with honors in 1944. As a UW student she was active in student government, a member of several honorary societies, including Phi Kappa Phi and Mortar Board. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. During World War II she was employed by IBM, working in Rockford, Illinois and Madison. She married James F. Spohn, a university classmate, in 1946. While he attended law school she worked in the Registrar’s office of the University. She was a life-long community volunteer, focusing on the needs of children and the aging. For the past seven years she resided in Worthington, Ohio, where she was active with the Griswold Center and served as president of the condominium association at the Residences of Worthington. She was predeceased by her husband in 2004 and is survived by her children, Adena S. Moore (Ramon) of Worthington, Ohio, Martha L. Spohn, Worthington and David J. Spohn (Rebecca) of Longmont, CO, her five grandchildren, Kate Morrical, Bonnie Morrical, Devin Moore (Nicole), Claire Fleming (Greg) and Benjamin Spohn, her sister Marcia I. Gollon (Warren) and her brother O.K. Irgens (Shirley). Family will receive friends at a reception to celebrate Charlotte’s life Monday, July 26, from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Holiday Inn, Worthington. Family requests no flowers, please. Interment will be in Madison, WI at a later date. For those who wish, memorials in her name may be made to the children’s charity of their choice.
