Charlotte Ann Wolford, 85, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala, Ohio. Charlotte, or “Charlie,” as she was affectionately known, was born on December 12, 1939, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late William and Ada (Thomas) Phillips. She moved with her parents to Columbus, Ohio, where she attended Central High School. She married Lawrence Terry Wolford on March 19, 1978, in Columbus. Over the years, they made their home in several places including Groveport, Ohio and Coolidge, Texas before settling down in Whitehall, Ohio.
Charlie worked for many years as a waitress in Columbus, then as a nursing aid at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, a job in which she took great pride. After retiring in 2005, she continued volunteering at the hospital.
Charlie was an active member of Whitehall United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed reading and was considered an exceptional cook, her coconut cake always a favorite during the holidays. Pets and various animals held a special place in her heart, as she was “mom” to, and cared for, a number of dogs and cats over the course of her lifetime. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, as well as her many close friends and neighbors. She truly cherished each and every one of them.
Grateful for having shared her life are her step-daughter Deborah (Charles) McGrady; grandchildren, Ryan (Erica) McGrady and Tara (Samuel) Jones; great-grandchildren, Jaxson McGrady, Milo Jones and Olive Jones; brothers-in-law, Roy (Betsy Jo) Wolford and Robert Porter; nephews, Christopher (Jennifer) Wolford, Alexander (Bethany) Wolford; nieces, Sarah Beth (Matthew) Walls and Barbara Porter; great nephews and nieces, Max Wolford, Mason Wolford, Nathaniel Wolford, Elison Wolford, John Clark Walls, Katherine Walls, and Jaice Porter-Repperd. Many of her close friends and neighbors also share in being grateful for having known and loved Charlie.
Charlie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant brother, parents-in-law, Roy and Edith Wolford, and sisters-in-law, Patricia Porter and Judy Wolford.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all of Charlie’s friends and neighbors for the ongoing support they gave to her and the large part they played in allowing her to maintain her independence and joy during her golden years
Arrangements are in the care of Schoedinger Funeral Services, 5361 East Livingston Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43232. Interment will be at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, 5802 Elder Rd, Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. A celebration of Charlie’s life will take place at a later date.
