Cordelia “Corky” Shupe Jackson Burton, age 90, of Marysville, Ohio, formerly of Upper Arlington, Ohio, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Heritage Senior Living of Marysville.
Corky was a 1951 graduate of Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1955. She was a lifelong member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She taught for 30 years in the Upper Arlington School District at Fishinger and Barrington Elementary Schools. Teaching children was her passion, and she received the U.A. Golden Apple Award for outstanding teachers in 1989. Corky enjoyed playing cards, entertaining at home, and volunteering with her children’s organizations when they were growing up. She also enjoyed traveling to visit out-of-town nieces, nephews, and cousins, and especially enjoyed yearly vacations with her dear Aunt Juanita Shupe in Bradenton, Florida.
After retirement, Corky and her late husband, John, moved to Marysville, where she was active at Marysville First United Methodist Church, and was a member of Twig 6 of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the hospital’s gift shop for many years. She was a member of Chapter EA of The PEO Sisterhood and served as property manager for nine years at her condominium association. She was a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, rarely missing a football, basketball or baseball game on TV. Corky will be remembered as a devoted teacher, a loving mother and grandmother, a faithful friend, and having a smile and kind word for everyone.
Corky was born April 22, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Notre Earl and Helen Tyler Shupe. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband of 26 years, John F. Burton; her sisters, Virginia Shupe Woods and Marilyn Shupe Dunn; her former husband, Curtis M. Jackson; and her step-daughter, Kellie Burton.
