Dale stayed at our house a couple summers ago, and at breakfast, he reported that he had a "visitor" while he was reading in the livingroom the previous evening.  The "visitor" was a bat!  He offered to catch it and dispose of it, if he saw it again.  Before bed, I peeked into the livingroom, only to find Dale fast asleep, book in lap, and bat net in hand.  He was a good man - bad bat catcher, but a good man.  Our deepest sympathy to Phyllis, David, Jon, Gary, and Rich.

Dale were friends when we graduated from college together and as luck would have it ended up working for different insurance companies a few miles apart in Hartford, Connecticut. We agreed to share an apartment to save money. Not long after we moved into the apartment two attractive ladies moved in next door. As young men we considered this twist of fate to be lucky. At that moment I’m sure Dale didn’t know how lucky he was that day. You see, Dale and Phyliss were married a couple of years later. 
    Time and distanced caused Dale and I to drift apart. The Dale I knew was fun loving, direct, helpful, and a person you can trust. The time we spent together has been in my memory many times throughout the years. I’ll truly miss him.

We have known Dale and Phyllis for over twenty years and because both of our families moved here from out of state, we kind of adopted each other and shared many a Christmas and Easter dinner together as our kids have grown up.
I have a story to tell about Dale in regards to our dog, Buddy. Dale and Phyllis took care of our dog (even letting him sleep on their bed!) on several occasions when Doug and I went out of town. The one time I picked Buddy up, Dale related a story to me about Buddy, insisting that Buddy understood English as well as any person. And he actually had me convinced that Buddy was a lot smarter than your average dog!!
 I share this story because it makes me smile. It makes me smile as I remember Dale, a friend who always greeted me with a smile, a friend who would do anything for you, and a friend who kept his sense of humor and his integrity throughout his long battle with a horrible disease, all the way to the end.
We will so miss him and to you Phyllis, David, Jon, Gary, and Ritchie, our sincere and deepest sympathy.

It would have been so easy to say good bye if you were a jerk or an awful friend; but you were not! You were such a great friend; not perfect, but pretty awesome...
I said to myself "Why Now????" It's too soon!!!! But that would be the selfish thing to hope for.  You were suffering in the earth... God saw it and He did what's best for you. He released you from the physical body and gave you a wing to fly with all the angels.
Now you are supporting us from above, you are not here, BUT YOU ARE!
We just have to open our hearts to see.  
We'll see you soon, my friend.

What wonderful neighbors Dale and Phyliss have been since I moved into their neighborhood in 2002.  We would gather outside to shovel snow, mow the grass, spread mulch, chat over the fence or just take a moment to say "Hello".  I must say  since living next to Dale and Phyliss, I'm most certain that I spoke to Dale about everyday while taking my little dog, Chloe, outside for her many walks throughout the day...Dale would be sitting on the front porch.  I would exit my garage and habit was, and still is, to veer to my right to see if Dale was sitting outside.  If he was, we would chat for a minute or at least say a pleasant "Hello".  I missed this early in September when I wasn't seeing Dale...I knew something was wrong and became concerned.  It's amazing how you miss a simple "Hello" and a wave.  But, Chole and I do, and will for a very long time to come.  

Dale was such a friendly man with a great sense of humor.  We shared some laughs over the short time I have known he and Phyliss.  His life on this great earth was cut way too  short.  But, I am most certain that God has a special place for Dale in heaven.  Until we meet again my dear neighbor...rest in peace my friend.     

My thoughts and prayers are with Phyliss, David, John, Gary and the entire Gibb's family during this very sad and difficult time.

I was 4 years old when you were born.  I remember your little body like it was yesterday.  You were so cute.  I cried when I saw your little hand with no ends on your fingers and asked a bunch of questions why.

I am your cousin Alpha Donna Gibbs.  The Gibbs family always called me Donna, they hated the name Alpha.  My father was your Uncle Stewart Gibbs.  I'm his oldest.  

I'm glad you are at piece.  Rest now Dale.
