Daniel Robert Cichy, 84, of Greenville, RI, formerly of Reynoldsburg and Johnstown, passed away on January 14, 2013 due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on May 19, 1928 in Chicago, IL and graduated from Lane Technical High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. On February 6, 1954, he married Corrine “Corky” Schilling, of Chicago, IL. He earned a B.S. of Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois-Champaign. He was an employee with Rockwell International for 40 years, having been awarded many design and engineering patents, still being used in aircraft design today. For several years, he was Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University School of Aeronautical Engineering. As a lifelong enthusiast of aviation, he was a member of several organizations, including the Assoc. of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assoc., the Central Ohio Soaring Assoc., and LifeLine Pilots, Inc. While volunteering with LifeLine Pilots, he not only served on its Board of Directors (2002-2010), but also logged 16 missions behind the cockpit, compassionately helping those needing transportation to urgent medical care. He was awarded its Earth Angel Award in 2003. His name also appears at the National Aviation and Space Exploration Wall of Honor at the National Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington, DC. Daniel is a founding member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he served in many leadership roles and is the namesake of the Church’s education wing. His family is grateful for the life he led and the amazing life he provided for them. Daniel is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Corky, as well as his parents Daniel Cichy, of Benjin, Poland and Alexandra (Fitt) Cichy of Gallitzin, PA. He is survived by his children, Roger Cichy (and wife Patricia), of Scituate, RI; Cindy Cichy (and partner Athena), of Tacoma, WA; Craig Cichy, of Los Angeles, CA, and his dear granddaughter, Rebecca, of Evansville, IN; and sisters Irene Kloska, of Libertyville, IL and Evelyn Verro, of N.
