

Dan was a former resident of Findlay, Ohio, native of Ida, Michigan, and a member of Ida High School Class of 1977.
Dan loved working with his hands and was a talented handyman who remodeled his former home in Findlay and hunting cabin in Albany, He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Professionally, he worked as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for more than three decades at Streacker Tractor Sales in Findlay, retiring in 2015.
Dan was active in the VFW and Amvets in his community and loved being in the outdoors as much as possible. He took regular hunting, camping and fishing trips to southern Ohio and northern Michigan, where he particularly enjoyed ice fishing.
His quick, sarcastic wit kept everyone laughing but deep down he had a heart of gold. He wasn’t one to want attention, even when he rescued a boy from the icy cold water.
Dan is survived by sons Andrew and Aaron (Katelyn) Gerth; grandson, Henry; sisters, Denise Gerth and Karen Crook, brothers; Ken (Deanna) Gerth, Don Gerth, Dennis Gerth and Steve (Becky) Gerth. He is also survived by his long-time domestic partner Kim McGowan, ex-wife Karen Custer, as well as his faithful canine companion, Nicki.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dolores Gerth and brother Richard Gerth Jr.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date, details to be announced. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Schoedinger Northwest Funeral Home in Columbus, Ohio.
The family requests any contributions in Daniel’s memory being to a charity of the donor’s choice.
