Daniel Ross Kuhns Sr. passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24,01 in his beloved adopted city Taitung, Taiwan R.O.C.where on January 6, 2018, a cremation ceremony followed a Mass of Christian burial. Locally, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Saturday, January 27. from 1-3 with a service beginning at 1:00 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street Worthington.
Daniel (Dan) Kuhns was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but reared by his beloved paternal grandparents, Madge and Shad Hersman in West Virginia. He loved both his PA family, Corrine and Joe Ptaskiewicz and their children :Marianne, Dorothy, Joey and Karen as well as his WVA family: Cub and Arlis Hersman and their children: Mindy, Mark and Michael.
In WVA Dan developed a love of hunting and fishing and nature in general, and in PA Dan learned to love the big city life often taking part in street corner DuWop singing.
After attending a small liberal arts college in WVA, Glenville State, Dan moved to Columbus Ohio, and worked in the blueprint business. In Columbus he met the love of his life: Bridget, but the Viet Nam war delayed their marriage plans for two years. Upon his return to civilian life, Dan switched to a career in the audio-visual business which lasted over 4 decades. He and Bridget celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, 2017.
The pride of Dan’s life was his three children and four grandchildren: Kristen, Ross , and Victoria. Ross and his wife Lisa have two children: Max and Meara, and Victoria and her husband Nick have two children: Eden and Cyrus. Kristen and her partner Patrick have 9 dogs.
Dan suffered a massive stroke in February, 2003, and after years of effort he gained the ability to drive and travel and generally enjoy life.
After Bridget retired from teaching in 2008, she took a job teaching in Taitung, Taiwan. Dan went along kicking and screaming, but found he loved the country and the people . Eventually he and Bridget created the Taitung Taiwan Stroke Survivors’ Support Association to which Dan devoted the rest of his life.
Despite his enthusiasm for life, Dan’ s body began to fail. On Christmas Eve 2017, the Lord intervened and said, “Enough is Enough; Come home.” Bridget saw the light go out in his eyes and knew then that his fight was over and that no amount of calling his name would reach him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Taitung Taiwan Stroke Survivors Support Association via: http://www.youcaring.com/dankuhns.
