Daniel J. Vincent, age 66 of Columbus, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012. Dan was born and raised in Columbus, son of the late Mary (Sweeney) and Don Vincent. He graduated from Bishop Hartley High School, Class of 1963, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He attended Franklin University and joined the Columbus Division of Fire in 1971. He retired in 2001 as an Assistant Chief. Dan was a fair, evenhanded leader who commanded respect and was known as a real fireman’s chief. He loved what he did and took much pride in his “firehouse family.” Although he earned many titles within the Fire Division, it was by far his titles of husband, father, and grandfather that he cherished the most. Dan enjoyed teaching his children by example the values of hard work, integrity and philanthropy. He conducted his life with dignity and honor; but most will remember Dan for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, golfing, the Buckeyes and the Blue Jackets. He was a member of the Charity Newsies and the Emerald Society. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Lynn Stanley Vincent; children, Vikki (Mick) Amicon, Jason (Katie) Vincent, and Casey (fiancé Ellen Pizzuti) Vincent; grandchildren, Nina, Derek, Liam, Frances, and Nathan; brother, Thomas (Corina) Vincent; sisters-in-law JoAnn Davis, Eileen Stanley, Mary (Gordon) Rhoads; brothers-in-law Pete (Dody) Stanley, Dick Stanley, Jack (Charlene) Stanley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at The Great Southern Theater, 21 E. Main St. Family will receive friends from 12-8 P.M. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State St. and from 10:30 A.M. until time of service Wednesday at The Great Southern Theater. Reception to follow at the Columbus Firefighters Local 67 Union Hall at 379 W. Broad St., 43215. In lieu of flowers Dan requested donations be made to the Mid Ohio Food Bank at 3960 Brookham Dr., Grove City 43123. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
