

David P. Carlin passed away January 11, 2015 at the age of 76. He was a true family man and loving husband, father, and grandfather. David's kindness and generosity were on display outside his immediate family as well, spreading joy to many. He will truly be missed. David was born in Bexley, Ohio where he attended elementary school before graduating high school from Columbus Academy. He went on to Princeton University where he was a member of Tiger Inn and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960, before returning to Columbus and The Ohio State University College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1963.
Along with his father (Oscar) and brother (Phil), he built a successful employee benefits/human resources consulting firm (Carlin Black), which in 1978 was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Companies' emerging human resources consulting practice, William M. Mercer. Both David and his brother continued in the business and were instrumental in helping build Mercer into the world's largest, international human resources and related financial advice consulting firm. David was a Worldwide Mercer Partner, Managing Director, and lead consultant relationship manager to a number of Fortune 100 companies. David retired in 1999, moving to Jackson, Wyoming.
Through the years David served his communities and institutions well. He was the President of the Board of Trustees of Columbus Academy, the Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club, Columbus, Ohio, the Princeton Club of Central Ohio, the Little Sturgeon Trout Club, Indian River, Michigan, and the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance. He more recently served on the boards of the Wyoming Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole and several closely held companies. David was awarded Columbus Academy's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1989. David was an avid fly fisherman, and general lover of the outdoors and activities that took him there. He enjoyed hunting, golf, skiing, boating, rafting, travel, and reading. David is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Florence, and survived by his wife and companion of 54 years, Lisa, brother Phil and his wife Sally, daughter Betsy, son Ted, and their spouses Becky (Watson) and Kristi, grandchildren Sophie, Jake and Biz, as well as a large extended family on his brothers side. Their will be a private family service followed by a Celebration of Life at the Center for Arts in Jackson, WY on January 31, 2015. The Celebration of Life is open to the public form 3-5 PM. There will be services in Columbus, OH later this spring.
