David W. Doucette passed away peacefully on March 3, 2015. He was born on May 4, 1931, the oldest son of William and Elaine Doucette, and was raised on a homestead farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he learned a work ethic he never forgot. Shortly after moving to Minnesota at the age of 17, David put his work ethic to good use and enlisted in the U.S. Army from which he retired after 30 years of service. This took him to England where he met and married Pamela Langsbury of Sandford-on-Thames in 1952 (d.1974). Three children born in three different countries followed: Paul in Cambridge, England in 1954; Paige in New York City in 1956; and Kate in Okinawa, Japan in 1971. David became a Green Beret during the height of the Vietnam War and served as a medic there in 1965/66; he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service among other commendations. David thereafter resided with his family in Bad Tölz, Germany; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Okinawa, Japan; and finally Columbus where he worked as an advisor to the National Guard at Beightler Armory in Worthington. After retiring from the U.S. Army he was an investigator for the State of Ohio. David married Drucilla Anne in 2001, and the two lived in Dru's wonderful house in Groveport where he kept the five acre lawn groomed to perfection. David was an avid reader, a frustrated golfer, and a noted pool shark, his team(s) winning city championships. David's strength of will and toughness were inspiring, but his gentlemanly and caring ways will be what his family and friends remember him for. He was passionate about life and lived it to the fullest for as long as he could to the best of his ability. David is survived by his wife, Drucilla; children, Paul (Emmi) Doucette of Georgia, Paige (Mike) Crane of Columbus, and Kathryn Doucette of Columbus; his four grandchildren: Dan, David, Rhy and Owen; brother, Eddie Doucette; and all of Dru's extended family. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley RD. Newark, OH 43055, or to the charity of your choice. The family will be holding a private service. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E State St. Columbus, OH 43215. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to share a memory of David.
