David passed away peacefully at Kobacker House following a lengthy battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his parents Karl and Ruby Koontz. Survived by his sister Karyl McManes, Brother John (Kelley) Koontz and Cousins Leslie (Terry) and Amy Sanders.
David will be missed by his friends and caregivers at I Am Boundless, his group home of many years. So many special thanks to the staff who took him on special outings over the last several months including the fair, the zoo and most recently the Railway museum, he got so much enjoyment as he loved to travel even for short distances. He was truly blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people.
Writing his obituary, I have come to realize that David never felt handicapped and he knew joy in so many things. He loved music and would sing for whoever wanted to hear him, I will never hear Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash without thinking of him. He loved Popeye, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Scooby Doo and would mimic them for you. He had great recall for all episodes and would recite whole stories for you. He loved railroads, merry go rounds, Cedar Point, the state fair and the zoo, not to mention his favorite meal spaghetti and meatballs. He is now perfect and whole as promised in the scriptures, I am sure he had a joyous reunion with family and friends that had gone before him. We will miss you.
Family and friends will gather for a Visitation on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 1:00-2:00pm, at Advantage by Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Road, where his Funeral Service will follow at 2:00pm. Graveside Service and Interment, 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 8th at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
