The family would like to thank the great care and friendship Dennis received from Home Helpers of Delaware over the past four years. Their care allowed Dennis to remain active and independent even as his health declined. Thank you also to Bella Care Hospice for providing compassionate end-of-life care during his final days, allowing him to pass comfortably, peacefully, and with dignity and love around him.
Dennis was born January 26, 1942, in Denver, Colorado, to the late Allen and Martha Puppel. He led a fulfilling career as an investment advisor.
Dennis served in the US Army for 13 years, including as a Lieutenant and then Captain in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 with Companies A and E, 2nd Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division. He received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal with V Device (for heroism), and an Air Medal.
During his lifetime, Dennis was a deacon at the Overbrook Presbyterian Church, hosted a number of Columbus USA events, and was extremely active in the Columbus Italian Club and the Ohio Florists Association.
In business and in life, Dennis enjoyed getting to know people and could, and often would, talk to anyone. He was a kind and generous man who smiled, waved, and said hello to everyone he passed. The summary of his life and the long-reaching positive effects he had on so many people cannot be captured in an obituary. His kindness will live on in all those who had the privilege to know him.
Dennis is preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara Bretz Puppel. They were married for 59 years prior to Barbara’s death in 2021. He is also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Virginia and William Bretz. He is survived by his son, Darin (Amy) Puppel, daughter, Debbie Puppel Martin, brothers, David and Richard, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Per Dennis’s wishes, there will only be a viewing for immediate family.
