

Diana Harris Melvin, died Saturday, December 24, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Janet and Charles Harris, and in 2014 by her husband, S. Noel Melvin. She is survived by her 3 wonderful children, Mark (Michelle) Melvin, Warrenton, VA; Seton J. Melvin, New York City, NY and Anne (Daniel Sullivan) Melvin, Wellesley, MA; and four grandchildren, Kathleen Melvin, Caroline Melvin, Shauna Sullivan and Finn Sullivan. Also survived by her brother Jack Harris and his wife, Tucker Harris, Washington, DC and their sons, Andrew (Mary) Harris, William (Alison) Harris and Matthew (Annie) Harris. Anne grew up in Columbus, New York City, Long Island and Highland Park, Illinois. She graduated from Smith College and attended Capital Conservatory of Music. She was first employed by the State of Ohio Attorney General's Office and the Governor's Office. She was a daily volunteer librarian at WOSU-FM for 8 years, then at the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for 13 years. She served with the Junior League at the local and regional levels. Locally, she was a volunteer at The Columbus Region Information Service; the Council of South Garfield Square; Planned Parenthood; Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio; United Way; OSU Hospital; Thurber School tutor and Columbus Academy. Anne was a director of the Jeffrey Company for thirty years. She was a member of the Boards of The Columbus Junior League, Friends of WOSU-FM, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute and Nicosia. She was also one of the founders of Alvis House. She is a member of the Columbus Club, The Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club and the Columbus Beach Club. Anne's fondest hope for Columbus was that it develop a vibrant arts community. Her support and efforts over the years have been directed to Columbus Ballet Met, Opera Columbus, The Columbus Museum of Art, WOSU-FM and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215. In lieu of flowers, it would be our wish that people make a contribution in Diana Harris Melvin's memory to a charity of their choice or to The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, 55 E.
