

Diane M. Hockman of Columbus, OH passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023 in her sleep. Diane MacDonald was born January 2, 1941 in Columbus to Leiter and Mary MacDonald. Diane attended her elementary years in Upper Arlington and Pittsburgh. She graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1958. Diane married W. Michael Hockman on August 18, 1962 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grandview. Diane graduated from the Ohio State University with multiple degrees: Dental Hygiene Certificate (1963), Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (1972), and a Masters of Science in Allied Medical Professions (1974). She also is a graduate of Capital University Law School (1978) with a Juris Doctor degree and passed the bar shortly afterwards. Prior to launching a second career in law, Diane was an Assistant Professor in the College of Dentistry, Division of Dental Hygiene at the Ohio State University for 15 years. After law school, Diane worked for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio in the Legal and Utility Departments as the Chief of Telecommunications for many years. She later joined the law firm of Porter, Wright, Morris, and Arthur and specialized in Telecommunications where she championed de-regulation, competition, and innovation that ultimately created an environment for the bundling of telephony, internet and television (cable) for the benefit of consumers. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother Brian, and brother-in-law Jon Christopher. Diane is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Michael and her children Michelle (Laura) of Fort Myers, FL, Todd (Heather) of Bexley, and Tyler (Jenny) of Dublin, and four amazing grandchildren Rex, Ellis, Lyla, and Meredith Hockman. She is survived by brother-in-law Jeff (Mixie) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, sister-in-laws Sarah (David Hassler) of Lisbon, Portugal and Beverly of Canal Winchester, and many nieces and nephews. Diane lived a full life. She was a voracious reader, loved crossword puzzles, travel, singing, telling jokes and was a gourmet cook. She was a fierce advocate for her family and friends, and gave her time to worthwhile causes for which she was passionate. She held various offices with her beloved sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma on the House Board. She was president of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association Auxilliary. She was a member of First Community Church with Michael, as well as, Guild Group 7, Twig 53, the Friends of the Columbus Symphony, Canterbury Unit and the Worthington Women's Club. She belonged to several book clubs that she enjoyed as well.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, OH on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 1 PM with a gathering for friends and family afterwards.
