Dear Dave and family, I learned of Dee's death through the Marietta College Magazine.  I'm so sorry  for your loss.  Dee, as we called her in those days, was my college roommate freshman and sophomore years.  Dee was always ready with a poignant clip, a frank comment, and a listening ear.  She had a great sense of humor and  was a good sport when the college guys began to call our dormitory floor "The Poop Deck!"   When Dee met you, Dave, she had no doubt about her intentions for your future together.  Clearly you built a wonderful life together and she has left a legacy of family and friends. It broke my heart when Dave called me this afternoon and told me Diane had died. We met in 2002 at the airport in Columbus when we were both on the way to a tour of the 4 islands in Hawaii. We became friends from the beginning. We enjoyed our vacation to Hawaii, and for the past 14 years we have stayed in contact by phone or meeting together in Charleston, WV or Columbus!!! We always talked on the phone about where we were traveling to next and about our children and grandchildren. I will miss all the greeting cards she would send me, and I will miss picking up the phone to hear her sweet voice, but I will call Dave occasionally to make sure he is doing OK without the love of his life!!!

Mrs. Russell was a wonderful teacher.  Both of my kids had her as an After-K teacher at St. Michael school.  David was so proud of his desert in-a-box, Melanie enjoyed the watercolor painting, and I appreciated her dedication and creativity.  Thanks Mrs. Russell for being a positive influence on me and my children. Missy Soller

Diane has been a true friend for 35 years.  When a holiday came around, you could expect a greeting card from Diane.  She always remembered her friends in so many ways.  She was a great listener if you had a problem.  Diane and I played in a Euchre card club together for many years.  Our contacts also included Boy Scouts which Matt and Ben and my son Derik were in through high school.  For the past five years, the Russells and the Paces went out to dinner and attended the plays at Otterbein University.  We have shared so much of our lives together - weddings of children, grandchildren, deaths of our parents and other family members, trips we have been on, ...the happy and the sad times.. Diane was always there.  She was a master of preschool teaching and I remember the paper bag barns with real straw that the kids made.  I will miss my dear friend and cherish all of the memories.

I am so greatful to have had the opportunity to teach such  wonderful children as the Russell clan. Diane and my paths crossed many times over the years as teachers at SMS and our conversations always centered on her children . She kept me up to date on their progress through their academic years and on into adulthood. Diane was a dear , sweet, loving woman who will live on in our hearts through her legacy of endearing kindness.

I remember when I first met Diane.  Linda Pace, Cheryl Cartwright, and I (Martha Peck) belonged to a women's circle at Epworth United Methodist Church.  We had lost our babysitter and Diane's name was suggested.  I know that Ben and Matt, Derik, Mark, and Brent were not in preschool yet.  So . . . Diane became our babysitter.
When Brent started first grade, we sent him to St. Michael's.  He was re-aquainted with Ben and Matt.  Brent went to St. Michael's through the 4th grade when we moved to Gahanna.  During that time, Brent, Ben, Matt, Derik, and Mark were also in scouts together.  Diane was den mother and had a real job keeping those guys in line, but she managed.
I also knew Diane through card club, but I was a substitute.  When I was asked to be a regular, I didn't feel I could do it because of the late hour that we would head home.
I will truly miss Diane and her constant smile. I know she is in a better place now and hope that we will meet again.

I played in a monthly euchre club with Diane for well over thirty years and,oh, how she loved card club.  What I remember most about Diane was her kindness.  Shortly after joining the neighborhood club I found myself pregnant and without a lot of maternity clothes.  Diane (who I was just starting to know) showed up at my front door with a huge bag of her old clothes.  I still remember sitting in that room with her laughing and talking and thinking how thoughtful of her.
She wil be missed by all of us.

Thoughts and prayers to the entire Russell family

Diane was a wonderful, caring and sweet woman. I enjoyed all the talks we had over all the years we knew each and the years we worked together. She was so  proud of her family and rightfully so.  She was a marvelous pre-school teacher too. I pray for the repose of the soul  of Diane   May she and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.  Eternal rest grant unto her oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Dear Diane, it was a pleasure to meet you and share some nice times with you and family and my Tim. You will  be missed.

Diane was such a wonderful teacher and caring person. Two of my daughters had her in St. Michael After-K, and I don't think a day went by without, "Mrs. Russell said..." or "Today Mrs. Russell showed us..." She had a way of engaging all of the students in her hands-on learning and her encouragement for all of them to become readers. She will be missed by so many. Prayers for the Russell family.
