Dick "Mac" McMeekin, ended his three year struggle with Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia on Sunday, July 12, 2015. He was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and greeted by his mom (Maggie), Dad (Don), uncle Jim, aunt Mary and uncle Bob. When he passed, he was surrounded with love by his wife, Sandy of 53 years, his devoted brother, Don and his wife, Jane, daughters, Amy Christensen and Angie (Magnus) McKinney. He leaves behind much loved four grandchildren; brother, David; cousins, Arch Kious and Linda Lause and the Adams extended family. His nieces and nephews adored him along with devoted friends, MacKaley Dean and Bill and Laura Dun. Dick was a lifelong resident of Columbus and graduated from North High School and then Andrew Barber College. He drove trucks for Lazarus and then Worthington Foods where he retired in 2005 to go into full time grandchildren spoiling. Dick and his brother, Don were not just brothers, but best friends. They spent their spare time working together building and racing cars from the early 1960's with drag cars to the 1990's and 2000's with Landspeed cars. Racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats, the car set many records. Dick loved running and spent the 1970's running many 10K races around central Ohio. But his love for children superseded everything else. His grandchildren, Abby and Blake Christensen were his life and heart up to the day he died. He was already ill when Angie and Magnus welcomed their two children into his life, and he would brighten each time they came to visit. The last year of his life was made so much better by the compassionate staff of the Forest Hills Center. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015. Private family interment at a later date. Donations may be made to The 'Alzheimers Association , 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 in his name.
