

Donald G. Karafil, of Westerville, OH, age 72, died Tues January 26, 2010, in the care of Mt Carmel St Ann’s Hospice & Palliative Care. Born August 17, 1937 in Dearborn, MI, to Sophie (Stoyanoff) Karafil and Boris V. Karafil. He was a Staff Sergeant and electronics technician in the U.S. Air Force, and he and his family eventually settled in Washington C.H., OH, where his kids grew up and where he owned and operated the Tower of Pizza. After closing the business, Don worked as Traffic & Warehouse Manager at Calmar, Inc., for 20 years, before retiring in 1996. He and Karin moved to Westerville in 2000. In his retirement years, Don loved visits from his grandchildren and watching Nicky and Andy play baseball and soccer. He was a devoted fan of the Detroit Red Wings & Tigers and enjoyed traveling to his hometown of Detroit to attend the games. Don is survived by his wife, Karin (Minor) Karafil, daughter Gayle Karafil (Joel Guild), daughter Chris Richardson and son-in-law Tom Richardson, his beloved grandchildren: twins Andy & Nicky, Kendra (Justin) and Kody Richardson, brother Phillip Karandja (Lois), sister Millie Jones (Danny), & many loving cousins. A remembrance gathering for family and friends, will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 2-7pm at the residence. For directions please email [email protected].
