Edna Rose Smith passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in Circleville, Ohio. Mom was born in Ipswich, England on September 18, 1924 and was always extremely proud of her English heritage and enjoyed a spot of tea every day. She met the absolute love of her life, our Dad, Marion Irvin Smith, who served in the Eighth Air Force during World War II. They married on October 14, 1944 and are now reunited in heaven as Dad passed away on October 8, 2011. Mom easily integrated into the American way of life and provided a proper upbringing and moral atmosphere for her three sons who will never forget her wit and charm. Mom served as an election poll chairperson but oddly enough, she never drove a car and could have cared less. Mom was always there when her boys, Dad included, needed a little direction or encouragement. She and Dad will always be in our thoughts and they will live on together into eternity. She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Carol), Bill (Jen and Katelyn, Lyndsey, and Kayla) and Marion Irvin Smith, Jr. Irv was our rock who provided endless love and devotion and was faithfully there for all the good and bad times during their illnesses and eventual demise. There is no way Steve and Bill can adequacy thank Irv enough for his loving caregiving, their lives were much enriched by his presence. Mom was predeceased by her mother, Gladys Florence Gardiner, affectionately referred to as Granny, her father William Herbert Gardiner, her sisters Lily (Goff) Frost, Pearl (Slim) Kapza, Kit (Jim) Lowe, Ivy (Eddie) Dear love and brother Bobby Gardiner. She also leaves behind many nieces and cousins in England, including Eve and Graham, Wendy, Sue, Tom and Brenda, and Susan and Tony. In the United States, she is predeceased by niece Marilyn Stauffer, sisters-in-law Dorothy (Harry) Styers, May (Hardy) Clark , brother-in-law Harold (Zelpha) Smith, and nephew Jeffrey Styers. She is survived by special nieces Anne (Jim) Rooker and Ruth Hefner, and nephew Bud (Bev) Styers as well as grandson Tim (Beth) Smith and great grandchildren Katelyn and Kristen Smith. She is also survived by Mark Rooker, Jim Clark, Mike Clark, Jack (Barbara) Clark, Lou Ann Clark, Doug and Rita Hefner, Harold and Kevin Smith, David and Jennifer Styers. Mom had numerous special friends who loved being around her. There will be a family only graveside service on Saturday, October 14, 2017 with no viewing hours. Thank you one and all for all the kind prayers and thoughts during Mom's short hospitalization and to the staff at Berger Hospital and Berger Hospice who consistently provide excellent patient care and understanding. Donations in Mom's name to the Alzheimer's Association 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215. It would be much appreciated as we need to address and eradicate this debilitating disease. And we ask that you hug your loved ones not only today but often as she loved hugs. Arrangements entrusted to Defenbaugh-Wise Schoedinger Funeral Home.
