Edward Ellison DeLong of Columbus passed away peacefully at home April8,2022. He was born June 4,1957 at Eglin AFB. Florida. His name honors his paternal great-grandfathers George Ellison and Edward F. DeLong, both of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith Verdell and Patricia (Caldwell) DeLong, his brother John DeLong and sister-in-law Paula Connor. Ed’s insatiable curiosity about how things worked and drive to innovate set a solid foundation for his lifelong vocation in building, construction, and slate roofing. He founded Precision Slate and Tile Roofing in 2008 in Columbus. He felt like he was a part of history and loved to restore homes, farms, and churches that were connected to families and significant events in Ohio. Ed was interested in every aspect of life and everyone he met. He was most proud of his two families. In 1989 he moved from Hawaii to Columbus with his wife, Carol. He fondly referred to Ohio as his vacation state. Ed lived life to the fullest and enjoyed nothing more than being a husband and a father. Vacations centered around family, the farm in Oskaloosa,Iowa and his childhood home in Kailua.Hawaii. His second family is all of the employees at Precision Slate who became close friends, celebrating one another’s successes and working as a team. Ed was honored to leave the company in good hands to Trevor Fisher. Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; daughter Meredith DeLong Thomas and her husband Brett; sister Lisa DeLong, brother Keith Caldwell DeLong, brother-in-laws Steve Sedlacko and Bill Connor, nephews Stevie and Joey Sedlacko, Kevin Connor (Claire Burkitt) their son Paul and Ryan Connor and his faithful companion, Cooper. Celebrations of Ed’s life will be held at later dates in Oskaloosa and Kailua. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ed’s name to Hospice of Central Ohio.
A hui hou, Ed. Until we meet again.
