Edward M. Palus, Retired Army Colonel, Viet Nam veteran, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and “grumpy” BINGO player took his last earthly breath Mon. 4/8 at 12:20 a.m. During 83 years, the Colonel was both a strong warrior and a loving human. Born in Chicago to Polish immigrants, he was proud of his heritage and embraced its many traditional celebrations: 12 course Wigilia dinner on Christmas Eve; blessing of Easter Baskets on Holy Saturday; deep fried homemade Packi on Fat Tuesday; and drinking and dancing at Polish weddings. How he delighted with Pope John Paul II’s election! Altho’ a SPARTAN grad –he’d yell GO BLUE to annoy his Buckeye Bingo buddies. A patriot who not only honored his allegiance to the USA, but to his commitments. Ed said what he believed and meant what he said. Only grandsons Harris and Adam could get their “Dziadz” to consider and discuss their perspectives. Wife of 57 years Sonja attempted tirelessly to get “Eddie” to take it easy but, without consistent success. Daughter Xenia shared bad jokes and received her dad’s astute financial guidance, but couldn’t convince him to see her side of their “discussions.” Uncle Ed to Tony, Phillip, Tom, Paul, Christopher, Keith, Kathy, Kenny, Kevin, Kimberly, and Ruby (and their spouses.) Godfather to Dee and Wojtek. All other family, many friends and neighbors will miss Ed Palus. Truly a one of a kind, real man who lived life triumphantly, loved every moment, and said he had lived a good life. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 E North Broadway St, Columbus, OH 43214, 10:15 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2013. The Rev. Msgr. Stephan Moloney, Celebrant. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Salesian Boys & Girls Club or to a charity of your choice.
