

Edward C. Thatcher, 92, of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 07, 2014. He was born February 8, 1922 in Otway, OH to the late Hamer and Nora (Hilt) Thatcher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 99th Infantry Division having served in WWII and several battles including the Battle of the Bulge and received the Silver Star. He retired from Jeffrey Mfg. Co. and was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing Euchre and square dancing. He was a true American Hero, a humble and amazing man. The family would like to thank all those at Oakleaf Village and Gentiva Hospice who made his last days peaceful and comfortable. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters and wife June in 2010. He is survived by sons Larry (Kathy) and Greg (Nancy), grandchildren Jennifer and Jeffrey, sister-in-law Ruth Norton and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5-7 PM and Friday, October 10, 2014 from 9 AM until time of service at 10 AM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. Interment will follow at Kingwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United United Methodist Church or Gentiva Hospice.
