

Elizabeth (Betty) Rupp, formally of Upper Arlington, died peacefully surrounded by family on November 13, 2018 in Portland, Oregon. She was born May 3, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. Following her graduation from Kent State University, Betty became the first woman hired as Director of Personnel at Toledo Hospital. She married John W. Rupp in 1955, and they later settled in Columbus, Ohio to raise their family. They were married for nearly 50 years. Betty was very involved in Covenant Presbyterian Church participating in various circles, the Couples Club and supervising the Covenjrs youth group. Betty was also involved in the COSI Women's Association and co-chaired the COSI Auction for several years. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women. In addition, Betty volunteered for the Buckeye Ranch and the American Heart and Cancer Associations. She loved the Columbus Symphony and Pops and ushered frequently for various performances. Preceded in death by her parents John and Evalyn Mercer, husband John W. Rupp, and twin brother, John Mercer. She is survived by sons, David (Pam) Rupp of Vancouver, WA and Douglas Rupp of Portland, OR and grandchildren Andrew, Alexander and Emily Rupp. A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 14, 2018 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43221. A private Interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
