Emily C Gaines

Emily Joe Clepper Gaines, age 92 passed away peacefully June 4, 2017 at Wesley Glen Retirement Community. Emily received her education at Agnes Scott College, George Washington University and the University of Georgia, receiving from the latter, a master of science degree in 1948; she was a member of the American Chemical Society; in college, held memberships in Gamma Sigma Epsilon, Pi Mu Epsilon and Sigma Pi Epsilon, national honorary societies; was also a member of the Phi Mu social society; prior to marriage, she taught chemistry at the University of Georgia. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and avid tennis player; loved reading, knitting, playing bridge and all animals, especially cats. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Bradford Gaines of 66 years; sister, Jane Farr Clepper; and parents, Thomas Thorton Clepper and Avon Farr Clepper. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bruce Gaines, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, great neighbors and fellow tennis team mates. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH 43221. Reverend Katy Wheat officiating. A private interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
