

George L. Brown, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2011 at home. He was born in Clintonville, Kentucky to the late Willie and Sarah (Jacobs) Brown on February 27, 1922. He was preceded in death by his brothers Emmitt, William, and Isaac; and his sister Laura Bosley. George was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where he taught Sunday school, served on the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees he was active in the Bethany Presbyterian Men’s Council and for many years active in both the Presbytery of Scioto Valley and the Synod of the Covenant. He enjoyed his hobby as an avid Amateur Radio Operator for over 40 years and positively influenced the lives of young men through his involvement in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association. George retired from the State of Ohio Department of Commerce after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma ; daughters, Terri (David) Woode, Toria Brown; grandsons, Robert Chester and Jarred Miller; nephews, William Brown, Charles (Sonya) Brown, William C. (Margie) Brown, Emmitt Brown, and Augustus Bosley; nieces; Doris (Robert) Runkle, Ann Brown, Irene Brown, and Joyce (Michael) Garrison; special cousin, James Jacobs; Brother-In-Law Herman (Evelyn) Henderson; and many beloved great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. A funeral service will be held 12 PM, Friday, January 14, 2011 at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 206 N. Garfield Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43202. Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church Lunch Program in his name.
